Alternatives To Winbugs for Network Meta-Analysis.

چکیده
xxx • Network meta-analysis (NMA) of clinical trial outcomes is usually based on Bayesian statistics and hence requires software for Monte Carlo Markov chain (MCMC) sampling. • The most common choice of software for NMA is currently WinBUGS, in part because there is a large body of WinBUGS code for NMA in the literature. • However, WinBUGS can be slow and difficult to use – the error messages are often unclear and the language does not allow for vector operations or if/then statements. • This project aimed to identify and evaluate alternatives to WinBUGS for use in Bayesian network meta-analysis. • Specifically we were interested in software that was suitable for applied statistical analysis in the setting of a statistical consultancy.

A Microsoft-Excel-based tool for running and critically appraising network meta-analyses—an overview and application of NetMetaXL
BACKGROUND The use of network meta-analysis has increased dramatically in recent years. WinBUGS, a freely available Bayesian software package, has been the most widely used software package to conduct network meta-analyses. However, the learning curve for WinBUGS can be daunting, especially for new users. Furthermore, critical appraisal of network meta-analyses conducted in WinBUGS can be chall...
متن کاملOne-step individual patient data (IPD) network meta-analysis of survival data using royston-parmar models
Background Network meta-analysis (NMA) combines direct and indirect evidence from trials to calculate treatment effect estimates and rank treatments. Modelling approaches for continuous and binary outcomes are relatively well developed, but less work has been done with time-toevent outcomes. Such outcomes have usually been analysed using Cox proportional hazard (PH) models, but in oncology with...
متن کاملEvidence Synthesis for Decision Making 3: Heterogeneity—Subgroups, Meta- Regression, Bias, and Bias-Adjustment
In meta-analysis, between-study heterogeneity indicates the presence of effect-modifiers and has implications for the interpretation of results in cost-effectiveness analysis and decision making. A distinction is usually made between true variability in treatment effects due to variation in patient populations or settings and biases related to the way in which trials were conducted. Variability...
متن کاملBivariate random-effects meta-analysis of sensitivity and specificity with the Bayesian SAS PROC MCMC: methodology and empirical evaluation in 50 meta-analyses.
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE Meta-analysis allows for summarizing the sensitivities and specificities from several primary diagnostic test accuracy studies quantitatively. This article presents and evaluates a full Bayesian method for bivariate random-effects meta-analysis of sensitivity and specificity with SAS PROC MCMC. METHODS First, the formula of the bivariate random-effects model is presen...
متن کامل‘Arm‐based’ parameterization for network meta‐analysis
We present an alternative to the contrast-based parameterization used in a number of publications for network meta-analysis. This alternative "arm-based" parameterization offers a number of advantages: it allows for a "long" normalized data structure that remains constant regardless of the number of comparators; it can be used to directly incorporate individual patient data into the analysis; t...
